To New Beginnings: Thanks To New Experiences

2LT John Ahlstedt: Training Officer – This past month has brought a start to two brand new clubs. The first being Golf Simulator, and the second being Cricket. Both have had intriguing interest in the boys and the numbers have only been increasing the more they play.

A goal of mine next year is to develop a golf team. The best way to train during the winter times is the use of a golf simulator. We used the resources we had to build a SAFE structure and a projector screen to build our own in Ivey Hall. With a parent loaning us his simulator we learned how this will work and we ironed out all the kinks needed so next year we will hit the ground running and hopefully develop a Robert Land golf squad.

Cricket has seen nothing but excitement and smiles. With two staff drawing in the students with their enthusiasm for the game, the boys have seemed willing and eager to learn. Numbers have increased from four boys to close to fifteen boys playing the game and giving it all they got. They walk out of Ivey hall after talking about the game and the strategies used. It’s always promising when the boys learn something new and enjoy it.

Just imagine if they learn a sport or activity and they want to continue it at home as a hobby or more. Wouldn’t that be amazing. We want to open doors for these boys to every avenue possible, so they can see what they like and give them an activity to help them remain healthy and active.
