RLA Students Place Well at Cross Country Zone Meet

After a long exhibition season our Loyalist cross country team was ready to attack the day at Zone last Wednesday Oct. 25/2023. The day started off with Pedran Jenkins improving his time once again and advancing to SOSSA as an individual for novice boys. Pedran finished fourth place for his event.

Parthibo Bornon, who has struggled with endurance, finished 10th place as an individual and ran the entire 5km race with no walking. He as well advances to SOSSA as an individual and will represent Robert Land with a strong heart and determination to never walk.

Lastly the senior boys were in tough but our 5 boys finished 3rd as a team and will advance to the SOSSA competition as well.

Very happy these 8 boys will represent our Team at Sossa this year. The race will be on the 26th of October at Christie Lake conservation are in Dundas.

Pedran Jenkins, Parthibo Borno, Stephan Paterson, Muna Assams, Andrew Kelly, David Cheung, Nick Thompson and Emanuel Kopatsis should be very proud of themselves.

Eight students arrived at Christie Lake Conservation Area on the 26th, focused on competing against the best in Southern Ontario region. The hard work they put in this year was on full display. With the conditions being cold, wet, muddy and just miserable the boys did not buckle.

Jenkins started off the day in novice boys and after a phenomenal start the pace was too much for him to keep up and slowly drifted back despite being only ten seconds off his personal best time.

Bornon was next and his run was inspiring to say the least.  He was asked by coach to push himself to his limit and leave everything on the course. He did not disappoint and defeated three boys who he lost to last week at zones and set a personal best time on that course.

“As a coach I couldn’t be prouder,” said Lt Ahlstedt on Parthibo’s effort.

The senior boys were in tough competition and a long day in the rain and cold did not help the situation. The boys fought hard but again the pace was to much for our boys and they drifted towards the back.

The boys had a tremendous year and to compete at SOSSA is an amazing accomplishment.
