RLA Cadets Learn New Skills During RCAC Exercise

Robert Land Academy's wrestling team had a fantastic season, with four students qualifying for SOSSA (South Ontario Secondary Schools Association). Muna Assams, who seemed to dominate every tournament all season, was the Gold Medalist in his 89kg bracket.
On Saturday, April 13, a group of A Coy students had the opportunity to discover scuba diving in a PADI Discover Scuba Session at the Kiwanis aquatic centre, taught by instructors from Dan's Dive Shop in St. Catharines
Students and staff enjoyed a BBQ and scavenger hunt outdoors on Monday, Apr. 8 before donning the proper eye wear to watch the total eclipse. The Niagara Region, and the school, were in the "path of totality" so students experienced a rare sight.
Last week, cadets of 2968 RCACC were learning how to make improvised ground-to-air signals. Signals like this could be used in many different applications including a downed aircraft, vehicle breakdown, or if someone becomes lost in the wilderness.
Once the student fitted the four pieces together and secured them with thin wire, they added tinder & kindling in the chimney and lit a fire. The fire is fed more kindling through the top and airhole.
On Thursday students in Lt Hancock's Grade 9 science class were introduced to the upgraded science lab by doing the popular Mentos mints dropped in Coca Cola. After reading and signing a code of conduct for the lab, the students were permitted in the science lab for their first experiment. While mints in soda pop is a harmless experiment, it was used as a demonstration of lab protocol and safety procedures so when they do conduct more serious experiments, they are safe.
The students of Robert Land Academy learn to face many interesting challenges throughout their time at the academy. One such challenge was faced recently by members of the climbing club.
There were 862 students from 209 schools who attended the 2024 OFSAA Wrestling Championships earlier this week. In Muna A’s 89 kg Male athlete bracket there were 32 boys, all looking to take the Gold medal.
Robert land academy has positions students are assigned with in and outside the barracks. Just like the top 3 other positions are known to be Senior NCO positions. An NCO stands for a non-commissioned officer. NCO’s are in charge of a group of people or things.
