RLA’s top jobs explained

By Nathanial Campbell

Robert land academy has positions students are assigned with in and outside the barracks. Just like the top 3 other positions are known to be Senior NCO positions. An NCO stands for a non-commissioned officer. NCO’s are in charge of a group of people or things.

One senior NCO is the Barracks IC. The Barracks IC (In Charge) is in charge of the whole barracks and they receive directions from the company staff to spread the message to the Platoon IC’s. The barracks are where the students sleep and have their activity periods and more. The barracks is divided into two platoons with 2-4 houses. The students reside and have their beds in the houses. There are generally two platoon IC’s in each barracks. Each Platoon IC is in charge of a platoon and they spread the message they get from the barracks IC to a House IC. The House IC’s are supposed to spread the message they get from the Platoon IC’s to their group of people.

The House IC’s are also responsible for helping the cadets with kit and making sure work gets done along with writing memos to company staff on behalf of the section. A House IC is not considered a senior NCO, it is just an NCO. The House IC’s manage timings for their house and they help their house with tasks, kit and more. Each of these IC’s are in charge of a group of people and they help manage order in the barracks.

There are also other positions that are in the barracks that manage or are in charge of a certain category. The Barracks Warden is an NCO that is in charge of filling the cleaning supplies, writing damage reports and to call timings for house jobs and moppers hall. House jobs are roles assigned for people to clean and manage the space. The Barracks Warden notifies the barracks/platoon of when to start their house jobs and when to start mopping for moppers hall. The Barracks Warden can also help others with their house jobs to show them the standard for it.

The Laundry IC is in charge of collecting all the laundry bags and delivering and getting them so the students in the barracks have clean laundry. The Laundry IC is responsible for making sure everyone turns in their laundry and they are also to make sure that no one commits laundry abuse. Laundry abuse is when people do not hand in their laundry or they put in too much laundry when it is laundry not needing to be washed. Along with the laundry IC is the Laundry 2 IC which is a junior NCO. The Laundry 2 IC has the same responsibilities as the Laundry IC.

The NCO’s get NCO scoff as a reward for their hard work. The NCO scoff is sometimes a dessert made from kitchen staff or popcorn. The junior NCOs are able to participate in the last NCO scoff of the month.

There are also jobs outside of the barracks. The jobs in the mess hall are: Mess IC, Mess 2IC, Mess setup/cleanup, Garbage IC, Washroom IC, Napkin IC and Milk IC. The Mess IC has the job of telling people if they are allowed to get their food when they’re notified from the kitchen staff.

The Mess IC also has the job of ringing the bell in the mess hall and to notify the students and staff when they are to clean up. The Mess 2IC has the same responsibilities as the Mess IC. The Mess 2IC is in charge when the Mess IC is unavailable. The mess setup/cleanup cleans up when the Mess IC notifies them that it is time to clean up. The Garbage IC helps out the kitchen staff with things needed. The Garbage IC comes around when dessert is handed around and he collects the empty paper plates.

The Washroom IC is both in charge of keeping the washroom clean and in charge of telling people when they are allowed to enter the washroom. The Napkin IC is in charge of filling the napkins at each table to make sure they do not run out.

The Napkin IC goes around every morning to refill the napkins. The Milk IC is in charge of replacing the milk and giving it to people who have run out of it. The Milk IC is in charge of keeping the space in the fridge for the milk clean and organised.

The purpose of these jobs are to see if students can show responsibility and to maintain a nice healthy environment in Robert Land Academy.
