Third Week Brings Success for RLA Chess Players

By Capt. Aoki – Monday evening, Feb. 6, 2023, was the third round of the Bishop’s Keep Chess Club Tournament. It was also the first time that all three of RLA’s players were able to attend and all three won their rated games.

Thomas Uzan had the white pieces and opened with the Giuoco Piano. Steven Tang had the black pieces and opened with the Englund Gambit. Dimias Sutherland had the black pieces and opened with the Sicilian Defense.

All three RLA students are tied for first place (along with the best player from the club). The significance of this result is even more fantastic when one considers that all three players were penalized for not attending the second round (due to conflicts with Final Exams).
