An RLA Face Off

RLA’s wrestling team has had a great start to the season, taking medals at every tournament they’ve entered this year.

It’s evident that our wrestlers are among the best high school competitors in this area when two RLA students face off against each other for a silver medal.

Both Muna Assams and Stephan Paterson said they felt more confident knowing they were wrestling a teammate in the final match of the Dec. 2 tournament.

“With Muna I know he has a lot of experience in wrestling,” said Stephan, noting usually he doesn’t know the extent of an opponent’s skill or experience until the match is over. “I knew it’d be a challenge and probably very hard to win.”

“At that point, whoever wins doesn’t matter,” said Stephan, who acknowledged Muna’s success this year by referring to him as the all-time gold medal winner. “What matters to me is putting up a good fight.”

Muna said he was ready to go and pretty confident when he learned he’d be facing Stephan in the silver medal match, but nervous as well.

“I know what to do against Stephan. I know he’s strong and know I can make a mistake against him,” said Muna.
