RLA Chess Masters Tied for First

On Monday, Mar. 27, our RLA Chess Stalwarts continued their dominance of the St. Catharines’ Chess World. Both Dimias Sutherland and Steven Tang were victorious in their matches and are both tied for first in the multi-week tournament.

After their competition matches, Dimias and Steven engaged in a “friendly” game that ended in a draw.

On Thursday Lt Ahlstedt and Capt Aoki took 5 students to a Chess Event at Hillfield Strathhallan College: David Cheung, Reece Continelli, Chubee Ihedioha, Dimias Sutherland and Steven Tang. Throughout the year Dimias, Steven and Thomas Uzan have been the Academy’s chess team, competing weekly in St. Catharines. Even though four of the boys on this trip are not a regular part of our chess team, the boys performed well. Steven was able to defeat Hillfield’s top player. And Dimias was able to stop this “bulldozer” of a Grade 9 student from plowing through our Chess Cohort.

Steven’s game with their top chess player was especially intense. After the game, the boys replayed the game from memory and discussed the various positions, leaving those staff who cannot remember where they parked the car very impressed.
