RCAC Expedition

This past weekend we sent seven RCAC cadets to a regionally run expedition weekend.

Captain Dyson reports:

Buechler, Ajaere, Oceguera, Owens & Avayou updated skills with basic expedition equipment such as Peak and dragonfly stoves, types of water filters, tents, learned the process of how an expedition team works and interacts. They had sessions with canoe training and really enjoyed some basic mountain biking. They learned about the various regional, national, and international expeditions that they could apply to join. Some cadets love the MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), some don’t – our cadets took advantage and scarfed down the extras that other cadets weren’t fussy on.

A number of boys attended as staff cadets in leadership roles to assist the adult team leads and organize the cadets. Staff were impressed to see examples of hard work, organization and leadership skills during the expedition.

The boys had great weather, honed up old skills and learned a little more about the RCAC system. More importantly, the boys discovered resources and potential friends with similar interests. RCAC staff regularly commented on the positive manners, behaviours, and comradeship of all the boys – they represented RLA well and we hope to send another seven boys this coming final weekend for Silver and Gold Star level expedition training.

Thank you,

G.C. (Greg) Dyson

Captain
