This past Saturday, Feb. 5, 2023, was one of staff’s favourite days at RLA, if not THE favourite day. Father Son Day is a series of silly competitions that turns into a really fun day for staff, for students and for the dads who can attend.
Beyond eating pudding blindfolded and riding tiny bicycles, the day has some very meaningful components hidden within all of the fun. Students are having fun and interacting with their dads in a very positive way; the dads have the opportunity to meet staff and see how we interact with their sons, and the boys become the teacher, showing their dads the skills they have learned at RLA and teaching them drill.
It is also a competitive day with trophies handed out for the best silly hat, the winner of the drill competition, the winning team across all activities, and top boy and top dad – for the student and father who put in their best effort in all activities and conduct themselves according to the school’s values.
This year did not disappoint. Everyone had a lot of fun, enjoyed chili and hot chocolate to counter the cold weather, and competed admirably.
