RLA Students Learn Canoe Rescue Skills

On Wednesday, May 8,2024, ten adventurous boys braved the cold waters of the Welland Canal to practise canoe over canoe rescues in the event that on upcoming canoe trips they capsize their boats.

William Tkaczuk, Arsal & Ammar Adnan, Duncan Larmer, Mitchell Ritzema, Jack W White-Terhart, Jeremiah Race, Robert Gimeh, & Seif Elnahas took a few instructions, stripped to the basics and then took turns tipping their canoes and rescuing their peers. There was a bit of wind on the water that came into play, the sun refused to come out but all of the ice seemed to have melted. Once everyone was out of the water, the boys quickly changed and loaded back up.

A bit of hot chocolate, a hot shower and the boys were back in class with interesting tales that roughly matched what the staff saw.
