On Wednesday and Thursday, May 22-23, seven Robert Land Academy students attended the Southern Ontario Secondary School Association (SOSSA) Track and Field Championships to compete with the best high school athletes in Southern Ontario. Winners from the SOSSA championships move on to the Ontario Federation of Secondary School Athletics (OFSAA) regional championships.
The boys again did not disappoint. Four students, in five events, advanced to the next round.
Pedran Jenkins set a personal best and new RLA record in discus with a 38.92m throw. Pedran walked away with the SOSSA GOLD and will be moving on.
Jonathan Flavien competed in both discus and shotput and had two great performances finishing second for both with a personal best and new RLA record in the shotput of 12.80m.
Bryant Ogoh had a personal best in discus and set a new RLA record in senior men’s discus with a throw of 34.61m placing him 4th and advancing to the next round.
Stephan Paterson had a personal best in shotput of 11.23 m and finished 3rd and will also be advancing.
Lets hope this personal best trend continues for another week as they compete at OFSAA REGIONALS to hopefully make their goals of competing against the best in all of Ontario.
